Biography
Christine Druitt-Preston is a mixed media artist based in Sydney, Australia. Her practice employs lino block printing, collage, embroidery, and installation to explore themes related to domestic interiors and gardens. Her artmaking acknowledges themes and practices of earlier women artists and artisans; using printmaking, stitching, and domestic textiles to engage her audience in conversations about the nature of art.
Druitt-Preston studied at Alexander Mackie CAE and the National Art School 1968-71, and Alfred University, Alfred, NY 1982-83. She worked as an art educator NSW TAFE 1974-1988 and the NSW Department of Secondary School Education 1998-2017.
Druitt-Prestons’ most recent solo exhibitions were in 2023 at Artsite Contemporary and 2022 at Hazelhurst Art Centre, with artworks also shown in 2023 Blacktown Art Prize; Sunshine Coast Art Award; Naked & Nude Art Prize, Manning Regional Gallery and Gosford Art Prize; 2022 Tweed Regional Gallery; Artsite Contemporary; KAAF Art Prize (Highly Commended); Hunters Hill Art Prize and Ravenswood Women’s Art Prize; 2021 Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award; Burnie Print Prize; Inkmasters Print Award; KAAF Art Prize and Artsite Contemporary; 2020 priNT Darwin Centre for Contemporary Art; Waverley Art Prize; Jacaranda Drawing Prize; Fishers Ghost Art Award and Sunshine Coast Art Prize (People’s Choice Award).
Druitt-Preston’s work is held in the Friends of Hazelhurst Collection, Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, Brooklyn Art Library, Brooklyn, NY, Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Centre Collection, Bathurst Regional Gallery, Private collections in Australia and USA.
Christine has been awarded AIRs in Haefligers Cottage, Hill End, courtesy of Bathurst Regional Gallery; Tweed Regional Art Gallery, Nancy Fairfax Studio and Hazelhurst cottage, Hazelhurst Art Centre.
